Mrs. Holli Coburn

4th & 5th Grade ELA-E Literacy Teacher, Room 213

Hello Smith Parents and Families. I am a product of Denver Public Schools, attending John H. Amesse, Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, and a proud graduate of Montbello High School.  I later went on to receive a B.A. in Elementary Education, as well as a M.A. in Clinical Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.  I spent the first twelve years of my teaching career teaching 5th grade at Ashley Elementary.  I later spent two years teaching 3rd grade at Ashley, as well.  Recently, my last 2 years of teaching 4th grade were at a local charter school.  In my spare time, I enjoy traveling with my husband Chris, attending sporting events with our two sons, attending music festivals and supporting the Denver Broncos.  I am thrilled to join the Smith Family and am looking forward to teaching your student! The best way to contact me is via email: holli_coburn@dpsk12.org.

Ms. Carrie Richardson

4th & 5th Grade ELA-E/S Literacy Teacher, Room 214

I am delighted to be returning to Smith Elementary! This is my sixth year in Denver Public Schools and my third year at Smith. My love of learning led me to become a teacher; to empower students to discover the power and pleasure of learning is a great honor. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Linguistically Diverse Education from the University of Colorado. I was born in Colorado, and after living in Utah, Washington, and Jalisco, Mexico, I now live in Park Hill with my family. I love the great outdoors, so I’m often in my vegetable garden or on a hike. To meet with me, please feel free to see me in the morning before school starts, or contact me to schedule a time that works for you at carrie_richardson@dpsk12.org or 720-424-4036.

Mrs. Kimberly Darrington

4th & 5th Grade English Language Development, Social Studies, & Science, Room 206

I am excited to join the Smith family this year. I recently taught 4th and 5th grade at Schmitt Elementary in DPS and prior to that 3rd and 4th grades at Rocky Mountain Academy in Evergreen. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science/Sociology from Metropolitan State University. I live in Denver with my husband, Mark, and our 3 year old Golden Doodle, Makai. We have been married for 26 years and have two sons, Jordan and Davis, one daughter-in-law, Emily, and our precious one year old grandson, Jack. Besides Denver, I have lived in Aspen, Vail, Maui, and Florida. I have traveled to many US states and also the following countries: Canada, Mexico, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, England, Russia, and Estonia. I spend my free time doing yoga, knitting, skiing, and remodeling homes. I am passionate about being a teacher and am committed to not only teach content, but social skills as well. I have experience in social and emotional learning and use my knowledge to get students excited about their unique talents and how to use those talents to increase their love for learning. If you need to meet with me, I am best available after school, by email kimberly_darrington@dpsk12.org, or by calling the school office and leaving a message 720-424-4000.

Mr. Matty Paul

4th & 5th Grade Math, Room 205

I am so excited to join the team at Smith. I am new to Denver, and hail from the great state of Montana. In Montana, I taught kindergarten and 6th grade, each for one year, before moving down here so I could be closer to one of my three older brothers. I love to hike, attend Rockies games with my brother, and go running through City Park. I’m excited to meet all the 4th and 5th grade students, as well as their families. If you would like to contact me, you can reach me at matthew_paul@dpsk12.org, and I will also make myself available after school. Onward!
